IYLI invites high school students, grades 9-12 to become IYLI Fellows. IYLI Fellows agree to live by a leadership credo and to completion of public service projects through the Community Service & Development Program.  IYLI Fellows are drawn from throughout New York City.  They meet 3-4 times each month, including Saturday seminars. Approximately 30 students participate as IYLI Fellows.

Fellows are young leaders who are committed to improving themselves and contributing to their community. The benefits of becoming a Fellow include joining a peer network of other young leaders in the U.S. and overseas, valuable experiences that will help in preparing for college, opportunities to learn about their own and other cultures, scholarships for international study, mentoring, exploration of interesting careers and extensive support for playing an important role in community improvement. A collaboration with the Liberty Partnership Program at New York University enables Fellows to receive tutoring and SAT preparation.

After high school graduation, many IYLI Fellows maintain the special bond and life-long relationships with other Fellows and staff.  IYLI maintains a relationship with alumni through participation in the alumni group. Alumni receive information on scholarships and internships. Many alumni continue to participate in IYLI, for example, by volunteering in the Seminars Program, by working as group leaders for overseas programs and by serving on the IYLI Board of Directors.

Fellows commit to a leadership credo that guides their actions as responsible leaders.

FELLOWS’ LEADERSHIP CREDO

I will work within my neighborhood to further its development.
I will respect my mind as well as my body, and the mind and bodies of others.
I will celebrate my heritage and culture as well at those of others.
I will create a better future for my family, my community and myself.
I will care for the world's people and environment.
I will promote a universal spirit of cooperation and peace.

From a Fellow:

"This is my last year as a Fellow in IYLI.  However, this is not my last year in IYLI.  I love this program and I would love it if I had the opportunity to continue being a part of IYLI.  IYLI for Life!"
