IYLI’s Seminar Series are conducted during the academic school year on Saturdays at Teachers College, Columbia University and New York University. The seminars focus on critical issues and draw on a variety of local and national experts. Students meet with peers, facilitators and a range of professionals to examine current and historical social and political challenges and the ways that individuals and groups have mobilized to improve these conditions. Past presenters have included representatives from the Peace Corps, School for International Affairs, Doctors without Borders and the US State Department. Seminars serve the dual purpose of helping to prepare students for the academic rigor of college through small group discussion around complex issues and providing insight on international careers. IYLI provides training to support student participation in high-quality internships by creating an environment where students feel comfortable practicing and building their public speaking, fundraising and project planning skills.
