A DESIGN FOR SELF-HELP IN THE 21ST CENTURY
The International Youth Leadership Institute (IYLI) was founded in 1989. IYLI uses a framework of history, culture, geography and environment to cultivate critical thinking and positive action. The framework is practiced and applied through seminars, workshops, service learning and international study to provide a context for analyzing challenges that we face. IYLI provides a vehicle for helping youth to assess the factors contributing to the under-development of communities of color and for using that knowledge to respond to our challenges proactively, strategically and rationally with compassion, understanding, commitment and determination.
A key principle underlying this approach is that solutions to our community challenges must be led from within and youth must gain the knowledge, experience and skills necessary to play a significant role. Read more...
