Our communities are stronger when we affirm, value and celebrate the cultures that we share. Blacks and Latinos are connected in meaningful ways to our African heritage.
IYLI supports the development of leaders who appreciate the power of culture along with learning and practicing their skills in planning, communicating, collaborating and organizing.
Your support helps IYLI to sustain our programs:
Seminars Program. Donations underwrite the costs of city-wide seminars that address important issues facing local and global communities. $5,000 covers materials and food for seminars.
School Partnership Program. Donations support IYLI’s leadership work with NYC high school and middle school students. $15,000 covers all costs for each school.
Heritage Program. Donations enable IYLI to provide low and no cost opportunities for students to participate in international study. Students receive scholarships for the summer heritage programs in Africa and Latin America. In return, they plan and carry out follow-up activities that educate and inform others, including dispelling negative and divisive stereotypes and misconceptions about Africa. It costs $4,500 per student to cover all program costs.
College Workshops. Donations help students to visit colleges and participate with their family in college planning. This support results in nearly 100% of IYLI Fellows attending college. $10,000 covers costs including workshops and college visits.
